The victim was the giant chicken, known as the Kurca, who gained notoriety last year by terrorizing both Europe and America. The tragedy is that the Kurca had become a force for good after rediscovering its roots at the 2008 Sugar Creek Slavic Festival. Recently, the Kurca returned home to rebuild the lands it once destroyed – but was struck down by an unknown killer.

The Baker's Wife:
Borislava Jaje

The Baker's wife, Borislava, was a well-known and well-respected member of the community - known for her delicate touch in making her famous Povitica. However, it was a chance meeting with the Kurca that began her fall from grace. Borislava is said to have met and fallen in love with the giant chicken at a kolo being held in the village. Borislava and the Kurca had a torrid love affair that spanned several months but ended upon the revelation that Borislava had become pregnant. While Borislava continues to deny the relationship ever took place, that damage of the rumor had brought shame on her and her delicious Povitica. She blames the Kurca for what it has done to both her and her family and has often been overheard swearing revenge on the monster chicken if it were to ever resurface.

MURDER WEAPON:
Authorities have found that the Kurca's injuries are consistent with the force that could be applied with a standard kitchen rolling pin.

The Shepherd:
Vlatko Ovaca

Vlatko was always the quiet type. He was known for the solitary life he led as he tended his flock in the rolling hills of the countryside. However, one summer his sheep would start disappearing. There were no formal investigations into the matter, but Vlatko is said to have recovered a single white feather that he thought too large to belong to a non-monster-size bird. Further, Vlatko claims that when he received news of the Kurca surfacing in America his sheep had ceased to disappear. Vlatko vowed that if he ever got the chance to exact revenge on the Kurca he would not hesitate – even though the Kurca's guilt was never proved.

MURDER WEAPON: The blunt trauma received by the Kurca was consistent with the force that could be applied with a valaska such as the one used by Vlatko.

The Accordion Player:
Belbog Harmonika

While the Chicken Dance has been around for years, no one can play it like Ol' Belbog. It's said that once you hear him hammer out the Chicken Dance on his squeezebox you never look at it the same way again. At least until the Kurca arrived. Stories claim that prior to the Kurca's rampage through Europe and America, Belbog would draw huge crowds from people dying to hear his enchanting take on the classic. But in the aftermath of the monster's rage, people were no longer interested in participating in such a celebratory dance. It got so bad as to even cause tears and screams of fear when it was heard. Belbog tried to adjust and play polka and other traditional styles but eventually was reduced to street performances for spare change. One night, its said that Belbog was seen carving "Death to the Kurca" on a wooden fence leaving many to believe he was the one who engaged the chicken in a vicious dance with death.

MURDER WEAPON:
Forensic examination revealed that particles found on the Kurca are consistent with the material used in constructing the bellows of an accordion.
